Tehran Series: Israel’s New Strategic Move on Screen

Actually, watching this series never even crossed my mind. I started it upon the recommendation of a friend, and unexpectedly, the show drew me in. This is how my desire to write about Tehran emerged. I will avoid giving spoilers; I just want to briefly touch on the general theme of the show and its political reflections in today’s world.

The new series Tehran, aired by Israel’s state television Kan 11, centers on a Mossad agent’s sabotage mission at a nuclear reactor in Iran and the challenges she faces throughout the process. Agent Tamar Rabinyan is a strong character whose mission goes awry, and she falls in love with an anti-regime student in Iran. The show is not just a spy story; it also explores Tamar’s inner journey as she reconnects with her roots in Iran and faces the land where she was born. Personal stories are just as prominent as the action.

As a viewer, one thing that caught my attention was the fact that, although the series is set in Iran, it was filmed in Athens, Greece. The reason for this is, of course, the difficulties of filming in Iran. This reality raises questions for me about the show’s sense of authenticity. The grandeur of the villas…
