My personal observations about cheating constantly make me think. So many people around me — regardless of whether they are men or women — cheat on their spouses with such ease that I sometimes find myself questioning whether I want to be in a relationship at all. What’s alarming is how widespread this behavior has become, and how people no longer feel the need to hide it; some even share their infidelities with pride. So, why do people feel the need to cheat? Is it attachment issues, or is something else at play?

The Link Between Attachment Issues and Cheating

Attachment begins with the bond formed with one’s mother and continues to shape our relationships throughout life. If you have a secure attachment style, you may be more resistant to cheating. However, insecure attachment styles often lead to dissatisfaction in relationships, which can open the door to infidelity. Most people who feel the need to fill the emotional void in their relationship tend to have an insecure attachment style. In my personal observations, most of the cheating cases I’ve encountered stem from people who feel their emotional needs are not being met by their spouses.
